This happens with most of the QA's currently in IT industry where they feel difficulties in transforming themselves from Manual to Automation QA profile.
Where it Starts ?
We all completed our graduation which has lot of programming subjects like C,C++,Java,PHP,Python etc. During Academics we might take these subjects seriously or not(depends on individual perception and interest).
But now market is demanding Automation QA's who has programming experience.
How it happened ?
After graduation many people got jobs as QA's and due to the Project requirement/Companies requirement they had to do more manual testing in their projects with no or less Automation. In this case people has to keep their touch on coding/programming but people didn't do that because their daily life is going fine with Manual Testing.
What is happening ?
Now after 2-3 years the QA's who are working as Manual Testing engineers, feel like they are under paid or they are not having Automation in their profile and they start looking for change. BUT market now is expecting QA's with both Manual + Automation.
What is the solution ?
So To bridge this gap one should keep their hands on with Coding/Programming and also they should keep learning new stuff or see where market is going and learn the relevant skills. If you are planning for job change, atleast 6 months 9 months before you need to start doing some courses and prepare for interviews. Because you will not be able to clear interviews at 1st shot So you need the right preparation for cracking something big.
And you need to keep giving interviews to crack the one good opportunity because the previous interviews which you give will help you ramp up and will let you know your weak areas. You need to concentrate on those areas and improve the confidence for next interview. This cycle should be continued until you crack a good/desired company.
Hope this helps some QA's.
